I carefully slid my new shell rings on and looked myself over in my bathroom mirror. I could hear the garage door open. I grabbed my purse and quickly headed through the kitchen sliding doors before my mom had time to start up an investigation. I walked through the back of “Smurf village” the condo community we just moved to after my parents divorce. It was in the middle of nowhere but it was on the way to “The Woods” which was technically a corn field, that had a smaller field.
I started to pour sweat the minute I got outside. Ohio is not known for its breezy summer evenings. I ran into the bathroom of TGI Fridays, their parking lot was my pickup spot. I checked my purse to make sure the paper bag was secure inside, I knew it was because I had checked before I left, and while I was walking here so much that the top of the paper was wet from my fingers. I took some toilet paper and wiped the sweat off my face along with my lip gloss, God Dammit. No time to waste drinking in the air conditioning I couldn’t risk missing my ride.
I sat on the curb sweating more and watching families go inside, I heard the hiss of brakes and unnecessary beeping.
